Hello all, I am having trouble starting my VT 400 2010, it turns over on starter, but will not fire. Have checked for spark at plugs, fuel is ok, bypass on stand switch, clutch in or out is same. Cranks hard on starter and all lights working, I am a little stumped at this stage. Any assistance will be highly appreciated.

So there is spark at the spark plugs and fuel is pumping after the fuel pump?

Fuel in tank, power at pump when cranking. Is there an inline fuel filter or is it in the tank?

As far as I know there is no inline filter. I would be checking the last link to the motor. Eg. Fuel pumping to the throttle body and spark at the spark plug. If you have both, it should be starting unless there is a timing problem. If not, start tracing back from there.

Bike is ridden every day, fuel no more than 5 days old, have pulled plugs and spark looks a bit weak so will replace them and see what that does, fingers crossed. Thank you all for your assistance.

Glad you got it sorted! Looks like they are easy enough to get on eBay if they are the same as the 750 which I assume they would be.

Gave it a couple of light taps with a hammer, it started but only at idle, no acceleration and cut out in five minutes. No restart. Due to EFI it looks like about $ 200-$300.

That is a shame it didn't keep working! Yeah, i wouldn't be surprised if it was that much. Ya can pay that or more just for a car fuel pump. Soon as motorcycle is written on the packaging, the price usually triples!!!

Haven't done that. You have a manual? Got a pdf there if you need it?
