Not sure if this is the right thread so mods please move if its not.
Just thought Id share some insights into my new (secondhand) 2014 VT400, had it for a week & done a little over 1000ks in that time. My last or first ride was a 1997 Kawasaki EL 250 had it 5 years it was a great little bike cheap and easy to run & maintain. when the time came to upgrade I wanted something newer modern so I considered the S40 ,XVS 650 the VT 400 & 750 Suzuki boulevard 800.
Test rode the XVS with short shots man that sucker was loud it made you smile but realistically was too loud as it distracted from the test ride & being able to feel how the bike felt, but the main points were all good plenty power comfortable ride but they do have a twitchy throttle which is something they are known for & there is a solution to its known as a clever lever.
Next up was a S40 on the road the bike felt solid & the ride comfortable, seat was more shaped than the EL and felt good too, how it would be on daily rides to the city or longer rides is anyone's guess but it felt good. it was also a windy day but I didn't get blown around like I would with the EL.
Next up was a 1998 Honda VF750C Magna On the road the bike feels as light as Elle. Its nimble, responsive and a simple twist of the wrist has the bike lurching forward. the bike is brilliant, the power that a simple twist of the wrist brings in any gear is so much more than any of the other bikes I've tested so far, but I'm looking to upgrade and u[grading from a 1997 to 250 to a 1998 750 would be fun it isn't really a upgrade.
Eventually found a VT 400 at a dealer took it for a test ride and it was brilliant great looks a comfortable seat a great sound from the stock exhaust so a deal was done & I found myself the owner of a 2014 Vt400 :-) , & after a 1000ks which included a 500k Sunday ride I have to say the bike is awesome, the seat is amazing so comfortable after 500ks no soreness or numbness feels like lounge chair, sure its no sports or naked but there's plenty of power on takeoffs hills require a downshift or two depending on the size of the hill but that's what id do with the EL anyway so no biggie.
The fuel range is impressive, 240 ks from a tank is great going, the EL topped out at 200, on the road the bike is solid doesn't get blown around like the EL did, fit & finish is excellent & I have I mentioned they look great :-)
Overall incredibly happy with my purchase, now just got to get a radiator guard highway bars maybe mod the exhaust for a little more sound.
So if you're considering a VT400 or 750 garb one you wont regret it.
