Can anyone tell me what the stock tires are on the 2014 vt400? I know the size but I want to know the maker. We plan to ship 2 spare rears to Darwin and unless someone tells us otherwise will go with stock although usually that's a poor choice. We'll have done 7-8,000 by then. That pushing it you think? Any other tires for longer life recommended? We won't be hauling ass or abusing them so whatever tire gives the best life at the most reasonable price. Is shipping spares not a good idea? I figure no sense relying on them to have 2 in the store. Probably cost a pretty penny up there too. We can maybe buy them here and with shipping to Australia still come out ahead?

Hi Kuri, Cant tell you much about what the stock tires are, if I still had my Shadow I'd go outside and have a look, but I'm sure the other guys will have plenty of advice. What I can tell you is that my 4000 had about 7k km on it when I traded her and the rear tire still had plenty of tread. I reckon you're right bout the prices being a bit inflated up north but not sure if it will amount to more than the cost of shipping to up there. Personally I'd get on the phone to some of the bike places up there... and there's bound to be plenty, tis not that small a place ... and do some price comparisons. The other thing I would recommend is giving them plenty of notice .. it wouldn't surprise me to see them tell you that there's weeks wait before they can get to your bike if you dont book it in .. even for a simple tire change. If you ring with plenty of notice and book it in, then they can make sure they have the tires in stock for you. Good luck with it Kuri

G'day Kuri. Dunlop is hat I have on my 09 Shadow and that's the stock ones, I'm getting about 10,000 out of them but next time L'll get Bridgestone as most people seem to say that I should close double the milage and the price is the same within a few dollars, $210 or there abouts from memory

Thanks Frank. I looked at Bridgestones and the ones available to me are Exedra G850,702 or 546 in size 160x80x15. The 400's rear is 160 not 170 isn't it? Are those tires the ones you're referring to?

Shipping from here is too expensive despite the cheaper prices and the devalued $Australian. But thanks for the order way ahead tip.

Thanks Spinal, just the info I need for ordering. With the mileage you guys are talking about I'm thinking that Darwin will be too early for changing. We should have around 8500 km when we get to Cairns. Anyone think that's pushing it? We'll be loaded down with gear about the weight of a small passenger, staying off non-paved roads generally, doing the speed limit most of the time and not doing any burnouts (LOL). Don't forget we'll be on the stock tires not the Bridgestones.

Can't see a problem there mate . What stock tyres are you running . If they are Dunlop you should get 10-15000ks. May I suggest you put some SLIME tyre tube sealant in them .Can buy most places. Won't get a puncture to hold you up in isolated places

Thanks Ray. Have you tried the stuff yourself? I've heard some pretty bad reviews of it. Think I will carry a spare tube though and a med to heavy duty one at that. We'll be prepared to change a tube if necessary.

Just got an email from the dealer saying that stock is a Bridgestone exedra so I guess the dunlops must only be on the 750 Frank.
