Just thought I would share what I have done to my 400c in the last little while since buying it. As you'll see, nothing major, just tidying up a few things and painting a few more things black. It wasn't quite shadowey enough for my liking in its "festival of chrome" mode. Don't get me wrong, chrome is in keeping with this style of bike, but I wanted mine to be more of a hark back to earlier bikes of the thirties and forties. And as most of the shiney bits on mine have been pitted with angle grindings at some time in the past, I didn't see the harm. It of course now has the obligatory pillion seat deletion, I only took the pillion pegs of this morning to see how it would look, I was always going to relocate the rear indicators too,but that was brought forward some beacuse last week the top plastic bit between the indicators flew off somewhere and I wasn't going to source another one. I did also take the saddle bag thingo's off as I dont actually have any saddle bags. Apart from an oil change and chain tension adjustment I've just been riding it as much as possible kicking myself the whole time wondering why I hadn't bought a bike sooner. I may still get a low set springer seat at some stage but what I really need, apart from the bit inside the left side of the handle bar that the chrome cap screws into, is a revised exhaust system. You just cant attack any right hand bend or roundabout for that matter, with any gusto. Although, the resulting sparks make an amusing spectacle for other road users.

Nice work green!! Sometimes I wanna so something like that to my little baby, but she's a showgirl and she is just attracted to things that glitter. I see what you mean about that pipe ... Did you black out the wheels, that really changes the look a lot .. and why dont you take off the chrome cover on the radiator? (me I like it and if you do take it off I know someone who would take it off your hands for you, if it will fit my radiator that is )

Like all the chrome on my bike it looks like somone has washed it with a scouring pad on one or more occasions and even if they hadn't done that, it has the same pitting I found on the wheels and some rust around the welds holding the top bracket on. Sorry. I did paint the wheels. Quite an involved process, but I am really happy with how it turned out. Thanks. Also, just been reading your blog, really great! Keep it up!

Thanks Green Ahh that sucks about the chrome, and one of the things I'm finding out is how hard it really is to keep it looking so pretty, I melted the arm of my textile jacket to my exhust a while back and now have a little patch of scratches on there that I know are there (even if cray looks at it and goes 'where?') I really like the blacked out look of your baby tho

Nice older 400 mate that for sure and yes i like what you have done to it .Top job. ;D The radiator cover wouldn,t of fitted on Annastasia,s 400 anyhow ,different setup they are. Hey Annastasia when you burn rubber or plastic on your pipes ,nearly the best medicine is to get them hot again and get a piece of wood and rub it off ,works well i can say . Better than using a scourer of sorts or heavy polishing . Cheers Ray

Ta Ray, yep I did that trick Sed told me about it while we were up there. I still got some scratches tho but I've used a gentle polish and a lot of it is filled in. Than I used the same polish on Cray's exhaust and it scratched it . Go figure. I hate Chrome exhausts, I might have to get black ones ... Mmmmm new exhaust.

I too have the melted on problem, but from mine and previous owners boots just to the right of the heat shield on the rear header pipe. I 'll give your wood idea a whirl. Cheers!

Nice Missing Link, we thought about coona for Anzac day then just ended up buzzing round to gil via Mendoran, it was a lovely day out though Is the fire damage up at the observatory still bad, we went there a couple of years ago and it's a stunning drive up there but I wondered how the fire has changed it, really gotta go there one day soon. Wait .. you guys weren't at the truck stop at Gilgandra on Anzac day were you ??

Wait .. you guys weren't at the truck stop at Gilgandra on Anzac day were you ?? Yeah Annastasia we were at the truck stop around lunch time, was that you on the white Shadow. Didn't get a chance to say g'day before you were gone. The fire damage at the telescope has devastated the bush around there, but it has opened it up so that you can see a lot more detail in the landscape. The scrub is fighting back pretty well and it probably wont take long to cover it all over again. Hope to back the area soon. Attachments:
