Hi everyone, Well first couple of days on my new Shadow and the first thing that I noticed real quick was that the Shadow wasn't made to turn corners. I found myself having to slow right down to make the corner and I actually scrapped the right foot peg on the first trip home. Is this something that I am going to have to master, is there a trick to it or is my first impression correct? Otherwise it's the best bike I have ever had.
Regards Steve

Like anything, the more you ride it the better you'll get at handling it. But as a general rule, its not a sportsbike but a cruiser so cornering will be different.

Thanks kinghavok,
Maybe you should have said.... its not a sportsbike but a cruiser, so cornering will be DIFFICULT!!!. but I'll keep practicing.

I am sure you will get the hang of it my corners just fine mind you I have not ridden sport bikes, at least on a shadow you get the thrill of scrapping pegs every ride. Cheers Azza

Yep, it's a cruiser thing....although I find the heel of my boot contacts before the peg does. So beware....if your going round a round-a-bout and it has one of those raised concrete bits for the trucks to run over in the centre, ...make sure you keep far enough away so that your peg doesn't hit it if you lean over that extra bit!!
I've taken the "Minister of Wars" aero out a couple of times since the demise of my spirit...Rory, and I feel it is easier to turn, maybe 'cause of the 17" wheel instead of the 21" that I'm used to .... IMHO.

Brian Hi Brian, Yes I have noticed that when I am riding my "Red Barron" my foot touches before the peg and I know that is the limit and to start panicking if I need to turn sharper or lean any further. I will just have to be a bite conservative on turns. Steve

No Steve that's not the limit. Just tilt ya foot forward and then lean or countersteerore more. I have worn the outside bolt off from under my pegs before I changed to surfboards. Lol. Now I wear them out and not me boots. Cheers Ray

Hi Ray,
Hahahaha that's a good one mate, I might have to try that one, do the surfboards allow you to lean further on corners? are the surfboards a genuine Honda part or after market, and where is a good place to purchase?

Aw common people - floor boards and pegs are sacrifical BUT a cruiser can turn sharply. Most of you are used to leaning sportsbikes etc into bends where there's a huge amount of clearance, cruisers don't have that.
To turn sharpley you will need to invoke some steering, yep - that's right, you need to steer the bike which means you turn the handles. Please - go and watch the SF Cops or the Japanese cops on their bikes during their competitions, they can turn really sharply. If you listen, you can hear the boards scraping as well, but their turning circle is about 3 times the length of the bike AND they're doining it at speed.

I thought of the american police comps when I first saw this post too Scrap .. those guys are amazing and on (for the most part) bigger bikes than the shadows .. I never realised that they do turn the wheel as much as they do tho ... check these out ... American www.youtube.com/watch?v=99KKx7cB-OkJapanese ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ-pTyQZJngOh yeah and I probably counter steer more than I lean ... but I dont go fast round corners yet, tho I find if I counter steer I can go faster more comfortably than when I first got on the bike and didn't know about counter steering ... (does that make sense?)

hi steve, l changed my footpegs from the normal 'peg'? type ones to the kuriyakan highway ones that are like a little footpad and they can also fold out for long longer highway type rides *plus they are purdeee chrome* its a girl thing. anyway l digress
l found l kept scrapping thepegs and its a tad off putting. l had to stop being a lazy bugger *yes l am* and lean more forward, and use more counter steering / kiss the mirror type thing and l rarely *still do sometimes due to beechmont bumpy curvy bits* scrape them and give myself the 'shitpants moment'. l also just had the seals/forks redone and omgawd it handles 95percent so much bettera now. l also went to a suspension? speaker night here at Steelhorse and listened to mr moss? and altered a few little things. Can l ask what you run the air in your tyres at as well?
